The Anti Guru: A Selection of His Greatest Talks
“The Anti Guru: A Selection of His Greatest Talks” is a fascinating collection of speeches given by U.G. Krishnamurti, an Indian thinker and philosopher known for his unorthodox views on spirituality and self-realization. Edited by Mark Edwards, this book brings together some of U.G.’s most profound and thought-provoking talks, offering readers a glimpse into his unique perspective on life and the human condition.
One of the most striking things about U.G.’s philosophy is his rejection of the traditional spiritual teachings that have been passed down through the ages. He argues that these teachings are nothing more than stories and that the search for enlightenment is a futile endeavor. Instead, he encourages people to embrace the uncertainty and unpredictability of life, to live in the moment and to stop trying to control or manipulate their thoughts and emotions.
Throughout the book, U.G. challenges many commonly-held beliefs about the nature of the self, the meaning of existence, and the pursuit of happiness. He argues that there is no inherent meaning or purpose to life, that the self is an illusion, and that happiness cannot be pursued or attained through any external means.
At times, U.G.’s talks can be quite challenging and confrontational, and he is not afraid to question or criticize other spiritual teachers and traditions. However, his honesty and sincerity are always evident, and he never shies away from expressing his views, no matter how controversial or unpopular they may be.
One of the strengths of this book is the way in which it presents U.G.’s philosophy in his own words. The talks are arranged thematically, covering topics such as the nature of thought, the search for meaning, and the illusion of the self. Each talk is preceded by a brief introduction that provides context and background information, but otherwise, the text is largely unedited, giving readers a sense of U.G.’s conversational style and directness.
Another strength of this book is the way in which it challenges readers to think deeply and critically about their own beliefs and assumptions. U.G.’s views are often unsettling and uncomfortable, and he does not provide any easy answers or solutions. Instead, he invites readers to engage with their own doubts and uncertainties and to embrace the inherent mystery and complexity of life.
Overall, “The Anti Guru: A Selection of His Greatest Talks” is a challenging and thought-provoking book that offers a fresh and unconventional perspective on spirituality and self-realization. Whether you agree with U.G.’s views or not, there is no denying the power and depth of his insights, and this book is sure to inspire and challenge anyone who is interested in the nature of the self, the meaning of life, and the pursuit of happiness.

Krishna –
UG was a remarkable man. Some may find him and may criticise him for being arrogant but he spoke truth and truth is bitter. I would say take the best and leave the rest from his words. If you manage to catch what he is saying and ignoring his arrogance then you will get pure truth. A must read book for truth seekers and followers of Vedanta.
